Basic Office Technology and Administrative Professional highlight May lineup
KENNESAW, Ga. (May 5, 2014) – The College of Continuing and Professional Education is set to offer a pair of certificate courses created to assist students in growing their professional worth.Administrative Professional will begin May 19 while Basic Office Technology will begin May 20. The two programs are designed to help students set themselves apart in the workforce by gaining invaluable knowledge needed to get hired or promoted in high-demand fields.
“These courses provide a tremendous opportunity for those seeking to stay current with their skills by making a minimal commitment for a lifelong benefit,” said Barbara Calhoun, dean. “One of the greatest investments you can make is in yourself.”
The Administrative Professional Certificate will teach students a variety of practical application and foundational skills such as Microsoft Office suite, professional writing, meeting and event planning and web conferencing. Additionally, the course will prepare students interested in taking the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) exam.
“It has helped me in my daily tasks at work. I learned tips on how to be more organized, how to file documents, etc.,” said Katia Reynolds, 2012 Administrative Professional graduate. “I really think it improved my skills in different areas related to my position. I highly recommend the class. It will give you valuable knowledge that will be applied to your job.”
The goal of KSU’s Basic Office Technology Certificate is to infuse students with the know-how of the No. 1-trait most employers seek – computer skills. The program is ideal for small-business and base-level IT professionals and those responsible for technical equipment maintenance.
Instructed by Donna Ferguson, who brings 21 years of relevant experience, the course allows students to become savvy in the technical integration of several hardware systems, Microsoft Office products, various Internet browsers, protection methods and security safety.
“These two courses represent the core fundamentals required for most office positions,” said Pam Moss, program manager. “The importance of these skills is not overlooked by employers.”
