Celebrate the Chinese New Year with OLLI
Kick off the Chinese New Year in grand style by joining us for an evening of food, fun and dancing. The 2014 Winter Social will be held at KSU Center on Monday, Feb. 17, with doors opening at 5:45 p.m. Dinner will be served from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by entertainment from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $10 per person and must be paid in advance by registering online at ksuolli.com or calling 770-423-6765.The evening preceding Chinese New Year's Day is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for an annual reunion dinner. It’s also traditional for families to thoroughly cleanse the house in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and make way for incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity. Other traditional activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s (OLLI) version of this celebration will be led by the musical performance of J.C. Campbell and the Reflections Swing Band. The 16-piece ensemble will bring down the house with their distinctive style and strong rhythm.
Our socials usually draw as many as 250 attendees, giving you the opportunity to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. We look forward to you joining us for a fantastic gala!
