Dean, scholarship fundraiser receive top honors from education group

ACHE has approximately 1,500 members in the United States and Canada. This organization’s goals include lifelong learning, professional and career development of its members and recognition of leadership and contributions to higher education (acheinc.org).
Calhoun has nearly 30 years of experience in continuing education with more than 20 at KSU. Her accomplishments include creating the first noncredit culinary institute in Georgia; developing training programs in Korea, China and Afghanistan; and receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Carpathian Region Universities of Eastern Europe for her work in Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. A scholarship endowment was also established in her name on April 3, 2012.
“I am humbled and incredibly appreciative of this recognition,” Calhoun said. “Education is of the utmost importance to me because it can truly make a difference in the lives of so many people.”
The inaugural Casino Night Scholarship Fundraiser was Sept. 28, 2013. Through targeted marketing – including themed poker chips distributed in the community, social media, advertising and press coverage – more than $30,000 was raised for scholarships.
