KSU partners with International Teaching Training Institute

Seventeen Korean educators successfully completed the English as a Second Language program at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education on Aug. 1. This marks the fourth group that has earned their ESL certificates through a partnership with the International Teaching Training Institute, the designated institution for the Ministry of Education in Korea.

Barbara Calhoun, dean, congratulated the group of educators for their academic achievements. Calhoun said, “For 15 years, we’ve worked with various delegations across the world — including China, Africa and Eastern Europe. You’ve come to the right place to get your training.”

Lyn Cohen, Languages program manager, has been leading this initiative since September 2013. The instructors for the Korean groups also teach in KSU’s ESL and Teaching English as a Second Language programs. They are Holly Arnold, Ed.D., Nancy DeLisle-Brown, Laurie Nelson, MAT, Noelle Thomas, M.Ed., and Cara Wells.

“Our instructors work hard to provide learning techniques that make for better retention of the language," Cohen said. "This is evident at the conclusion of our time with the Korean groups. They are more confident with the English language, and it shows.”

Southern hospitality is also part of this experience. In addition to their studies at KSU, the educators are treated to tours of KSU’s campus and Atlanta tourist attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium and Turner Field.
